Thankful Thursday

When Jason and I got married we moved into a brand spankin' new townhome.  It was perfect.  There was nothing to fix; nothing ever went wrong.  Our biggest problem was deciding whether or not to change the neutral paint color.  Our yard was mowed weekly and new mulch magically appeared in the flower beds.  We were in homeowner bliss.

Then we purchased a foreclosure.

Last June we began a seemingly endless array of home projects.  Upon completion of an entire first floor overhawl, we've recently begun working on the exterior - in particular the landscaping.  Here's where my attitude of gratitude comes in.  I don't like to sweat unless I'm working out.  I don't like to get eaten alive by mosquitoes.  I have never mowed the grass.  I don't care much for poison ivy and I most certainly don't like to have dirt under my fingernails.  But praise the Lord for a handy husband who thinks working in the yard is awesome!

Let me share with you some of Jason's most recent projects.

See exhibit A- a light atop a brick column at the end of our driveway.  We have two of these in fact.  Since buying our house last summer these lights have never worked.  We tested the bulbs and they worked.  Through process of elimination we located the switch but still no light.  Through much trial and error, many trips under the house in the crawl space, many flips of breakerbox switches and much digging up of the yard, Jason found a short in the wire and was able to repair it which got our lights up and running!  So impressive!  It's incredible to see all he's learned in the last few months.  He's become quite the electrical expert!  Way to go Jason!!!

Today's project is equally impressive and I'm equally glad I'm inside cooking and blogging instead.  Around these previously mentioned light posts lived beds of ivy.  Lots of ivy.  Despite a serious poison ivy allergy, Jason has taken it upon himself to clear these beds so that we can plant pretty shrubs in place of the ivy.  If only we lived inside the city limits and could have our bags of ivy hauled off.  Umph.  Thank you Jason for all your hard work.  I cannot wait to see the beautiful flower beds you create!  I'm so blessed to have such a handy husband!

Yay I've been waiting for another post!! So glad you have a handy husband! I'm with you girl- the only yardwork I enjoy is gardening. But Arnaud is happy to spend an entire Sat morning in the yard.

Can you post some before and after pics of your renovations? Pretty please? All I've ever seen is the gorgeous after-results!
