It's a GIRL!

As many of you know, we've been considering expanding our family of three for a while now.  Due to our travel schedule and busy lives we've waited for the perfect time and the perfect addition.  I think we found both!

This past Sunday we welcomed a beautiful 7 month old little girl into our home.  We rescued her from an animal foster group in Raleigh.  She had been abandoned at an animal hospital with her brother when she was only a few weeks old.  She was nursed back to health and her brother was adopted several weeks ago.  This little kitty hit the jackpot!  Her name is Bluebell.

It's been a long running tradition in my mom's family that male animals are given biblical names and girls are named after flowers.  After much consideration of floral names I chose Bluebell since it also has personal significance of being my favorite brand of ice cream.

*Side note on Blue Bell Ice Cream.  Blue Bell originated in Texas.  When I was growing up and traveling to visit my family in Louisiana, Blue Bell was always a highlight of the trip.  Just the sound of the name makes me think of diving into my grandma's chest freezer hoping to find one more 1/2 gallon just for me.  I also think of my dad and my Uncle Larry who are and were ultimate Blue Bell fans.  You've never tasted vanilla ice cream until you've tried Blue Bell's homemade vanilla.  It is delicious!  Unfortunately this frozen delicacy is not available in Raleigh, yet.  In NC it can be purchased as far east as Greensboro and if you're willing to cross over the border, Blue Bell is also available in the Myrtle Beach, SC area.  It is without question the best ice cream in the country.  I look forward to the day when Blue Bell will build a distribution center on this side of NC and I'll be able to purchase this product within ten miles of my home.  Until then I'll continue to smuggle it across county lines and keep bringing back coolers full from trips to Winston-Salem and Greensboro.

Back to cat chat...So far the transition from a family of three to a family of four has been surprisingly easy.  Moses was hesitant at first but after a couple of days he has really grown to love his little sister.  They are inseparable while they are awake.  When it's nap time they both go to their separate beds and snooze away the day.  I was worried that Moses' personality would change after introducing a sibling but he remains the sweet cuddly boy that he's always been.

Our only problem is that Moses wants to eat Bluebell's food.  We've kept her on the same food she was eating in her foster home to ease the transition for her.  Moses is used to a diet of green peas and duck but thinks this cheap ordinary food is quite exciting.  (I assume much like I would find Little Debbie snacks exciting after a week of healthy snacking.)  Our solution so far has been to keep Bluebell's food bowl on top of our pub table.  Moses hasn't found it up there yet and Bluebell has no problem getting up there with all her kitten energy.  Here's a funny picture of Moses wondering what happened to the food bowl that used to sit by her water bowl.  Silly kitty:)  Isn't he handsome?

We look forward to watching Bluebell grow into a sweet little lady.  More updates will come as our little kitties grow into best friends.  Here are a few pictures of her playing with her favorite feather toy.  How precious!

What cutie! I'm sure Moses loves having a buddy around to play with!

David Brown was talking about Bluebell ice cream in Sunday school recently. He was recounting how he took Ashley out on a date when they were in high school, and I think he said it was to a place that served Bluebell ice cream here in Raleigh. He also went on about how good it is. I've never tried it, but it sounds yummy!

Chelsea is right! We grew up eating Bluebell and were devastated to find that Raleigh didn't have it. :( I have hope that one day it will be here. There truly is no better ice cream. Cute kitties!!
